Here you can experience most of the 1st unit of the Chemistry4Homeschool curriculum. As you will see below, every unit in the curriculum is fully outlined so that it's easy to know exactly what assignments should be done each day to pace yourself through the course. Each and every question is thoroughly explained in videos that follow each assignment. In the sample below, I have created hyperlinks for you to download (and print) the assignments, view the answer keys and watch the videos.

Here's a word of warning! You have access to many of the answer keys (but not the tests). For example, in Day 3's lesson plan you will find the answer key for Day 2's assignments. While working on Day 2's assignments do not prematurely consult the answer keys found in Day 3. You need to struggle a bit! Of course, AFTER struggling if you cannot figure out a particular question feel free to look ahead to the answer key for a bit of help. But don't take shortcuts! You know what I mean :)

Day 1

1. We are going to begin with an introductory lab. (Click here to download the lab and then complete it.)  If you have a printer I recommend printing the worksheets so you can write your answers on them.
2. After the lab, watch the short
Unit 1 Introduction video below:

Day 2

1. View the ChemQuest informational video.

2. Read objective #1 on the Learning objectives sheet. (Click here.) This learning objective tells you what you should be learning today. Below each objective you will find "I can" statements. When you can do all of those "I can" statements, then you know you've accomplished your learning goal for the day.
3. Complete ChemQuest #1: Composition of Air. (Click here.)

Day 3

1. Check your answers to yesterday's assignment using the answer key. (Click here.)
2. View the video for ChemQuest #1 below.  Note: if your answers were the same as the answer key and you feel very confident of your answers, you may skip portions of the video or watch the video at a higher speed. Note, however, that if you skip the video you might miss some expanded explanations for some questions (see question 5 in this video for an example).

3. Read objective #2 on the Learning objectives sheet. (Click here.) This learning objective tells you what you should be learning today.
4. Complete ChemQuest #2: Changes and Matter. (Click here.)

Day 4

1. Check your answers to yesterday's assignment using the answer key. (Click here.)
2. View the video for ChemQuest #2 below:

3. Watch this YouTube video that demonstrates a great chemical change. Sodium metal and chlorine gas react to form table salt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji_25I_q4LQ
4. Read objectives #3 and #4 on the Learning objectives sheet. (Click here.) These learning objectives are what you should be learning today.
